Electrolysis is recognized by the FDA as the only method of permanent hair removal. It utilizes electricity to destroy the hair root and the hair growth cells inside the hair follicle. Electrolysis can be used on any skin type, skin color, hair type and hair color. Electrolysis can treat hairs anywhere on the body aside from the inner ears and inner nostrils.
Electrolysis works by targeting hairs individually. A fine, sterile probe is inserted into the hair follicle and a small, controlled amount of electric current is gently released into the bottom of the hair follicle. The electric current destroys the hair growth cells inside the follicle making it impossible for the hair to regenerate.
Yes! Electrolysis is the ONLY method of truly permanent hair removal. Once a hair has been properly treated it will never grow back.
Electrolysis can be done on any area of the body. The only exception is inside the ears and inside the nostrils. Electrolysis is safe of the face, head, neck, arms, underarms, hands, breast, abdomen, genital area, legs, toes, etc.
Although laser has been marketed as permanent hair removal, it has actually only been cleared by the FDA as permanent hair reduction. Unlike electrolysis, which can effectively treat any hair, laser only works if there a contrast between the color of the hair and the skin tone. It is not effective at treating blonde, grey or red hairs and is often ineffective for people with darker complexions. Laser is limited in its scope of treatment whereas electrolysis is effective on any hair and any skin tone.
A pretreatment consultation is necessary to ensure you, the client, can safely receive electrolysis. During your consultation, your electrologist will review your confidential health history, evaluate your skin and hair growth and discuss your hair removal goals. A customized treatment plan will be created to ensure your goals are met in the most efficient and effective manner possible. Clients must be 18 years of age or older, or be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian during the consultation.
Electrolysis is a process that requires commitment and should be viewed as an investment. Because there are a wide range of factors that contribute to hair growth, it is impossible to know in advance how long it will take to reach your desired results. Factors such as the area you are treating, hair growth cycles, hormones, medications, genetics and previous hair removal methods can all contribute to hair growth and are widely variable for each individual.
The number of sessions needed to rid an area of unwanted hair is dependent on many factors. It is impossible to know in advance how many sessions will be required. A customized treatment plan will be created based on the information discussed during your confidential consultation.
Electrolysis should not be painful. Some individuals will experience a mild amount of discomfort. Your electrologist will make adjustments as necessary to ensure the treatments are within your comfort level. For those highly sensitive, there are topical numbing creams that can be applied prior to treatments.
As with most procedures, side effects are possible and will vary by individual. Most side effects are temporary and dissipate within a few hours, such as redness or swelling. These, as well as other potential side effects, will be discussed in detail during your consultation.
